Vince Young, already taking classes at the University of Texas, worked out at the school's pro day likely in front of many of the same NFL scouts who saw him seven years ago when he was the Tennessee Titans first-round pick.
Young went on to become the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year, but soon flamed out due to inconsistencies as a passer and, more than that, problems with maturity and dedication. Temper tantrums on the field and in the locker room, as well as being late and/or missing meetings grated on the Titans coaching staff. VY eventually bounced from the Titans to the Eagles and then signed with Bills last season, only to be cut in training camp.
But Tuesday in Austin, NFL.com reported that Young was impressive in his work on Tuesday, according to Texas assistant Major Applewhite and long-time NFL draft expert Gil Brandt.
Will it be enough to get VY another shot? Chances are, Young will have to prove that more than his throwing mechanics have improved. He will have to show that his ability to comprehend an NFL playbook has gotten better, and that the days of slacking off on meetings and appointments are over with, too.
