Marvin Lewis has survived the ups and many downs of coaching the Cincinnati Bengals.
He has guided the club to consecutive playoff berths for the first time in three decades, but Lewis wants something that has still eluded him. In 10 years as the Bengals head coach, Lewis will be making his fourth playoff appearance today when Cincinnati travels to face the Houston Texans.
But the Bengals are winless in those playoff trips, and in fact last won a postseason game in 1990.
“I haven’t gotten us to the championship game. We’ve won the division twice but we haven’t won a playoff game," Lewis told the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Lewis and the Bengals are thinking Super Bowl, even as the sixth seed in the AFC. But first things first, the Bengals need to figure out a way to win a playoff game before they can consider completing their quest.
