Jason Babin, who could become a free agent after 2013 under a stipulation in the CBA, says he is looking at the Jacksonville Jaguars as a long-term situation.
“That’s the plan,” Babin, 32, told the Florida Times-Union. “I think they’re thinking the same thing and I am on board with that. I like it here. You have great weather, great coaches, great team and no state income tax.”
The Jags are tied for last in the league in sacks, and with Austen Lane nursing a foot injury, Babin might even be in line to start Sunday when Jacksonville faces Buffalo.
Defensive line coach Joe Cullen says Babin fits in to what the Jaguars want to do defensively.
“There’s a couple of things we look for in that position and one is the relentless motor and being able to rush the passer and he fits both of those needs,’’ Cullen said. “You’re looking at him the last couple of games and he was disruptive. He collapsed the pocket. He will be a great addition to the team.”
