Top early enrollees from class of 2010

These prospects have a chance to make an impact next season.

STRENGTHS - Clearly understanding his assignment, Schwab is able to get off ball and through the line to the 2nd level decently. His footwork is solid and helps him to play quicker than his athleticism would make you think he could. He uses his hands well to get a good fit on defender and stays after block until the whistle.

WEAKNESSES - Schwab is tight in hips and struggles to drop hips to block with base/leverage. Despite understanding his assignment, he does not consistently take good angles as a blocker, which leads to him getting out of position vs explosive edge rushers and hinders his ability to adjust to a moving target. He doesn't display good instincts when blocking which leads to him being late reacting to different things. Not an explosive, fire-off-the-ball run blocker, he tends to stand up and tries to grab, hold and turn man to keep him out of the play - Does not get movement on blocks. .

SUMMARY - On film Schwab does not produce at the level of an NFL player. While he is able to get out of his stance quickly, beyond that he struggles with consistently. He has good natural strength, but struggles to play up to it because he plays high and lacks explosiveness off the ball. Even when he plays physically, he struggles to maintain that physical play throughout the entire game. His lack of top athleticism and questionable instincts hinders his ability to adjust to blocking a moving target out in space and to secondary pass rush moves. He lacks the athleticism to recover consistently once he gets beaten initially. Overall, Schwab has the size to warrant an opportunity as a free agent, but I do not believe he can have a long NFL career.
