STRENGTHS - Sampson shows that he has the strength to move guys off of the LOS and he has okay run block capabilities. He has solid footwork and he does slide his feet well to maintain leverage on the DL. He does an okay job of getting to the 2nd level but this could definitely be improved. He gets off of the snap well and there's no hesitation. Uses his hands well in pass protection.
WEAKNESSES - While he gets off the line well he does not explode off of the line. He does not show very much physicality and there really is not much nastiness with him. His hip turns are not very smooth and if he's beat off the snap he will not be able to recover. He does not react well to stunt blitzes and at times he looks very much confused. He does not have the speed or quickness to get to the 2nd level comfortably for screen plays.
SUMMARY - While Sampson gets off of the snap well, he does not explode well into his blocks. With quicker and tougher DL in the NFL, I do not see him having any success there. He does show signs that he has the strength to move guys off the line and re-direct the defense on run plays and he using his punch in pass protection fairly well. While he slides his feet well he does not appear to his hip turn is very slow and suspect and if he gets beat off the snap I don't see him as being able to recover well and pick up the block. He did not show he reacted very well to any stunt blitzes and at times when he got to the 2nd level he looked a little confused as to where he was supposed to go or would hesitate to make a block. Overall I do not see Sampson as being a guy that will have any success at the next level. .
